I was having an issue with the weather app saying connection failed on my grandstream phones. I reached out to grandstream to see what they say about this issue and this is the reply I got.
“The provider of the weather service -Yahoo-, used on the phones, has recently made a change to its API, causing the “connection failed” error or the service not to update. Our developers have been informed and will be working on an update for our phone series on a future firmware update”
When I get an update that they fixed this issue I will update this post!
If you have a fix please leave it in the comments below!
UPDATE: 8/1/2016
The fix for that issue is included in the BETA firmware version 1.0.7.65 available on firmware.grandstream.com. The firmware should be officially released anytime soon.

I’m having the same issue too. I noticed one day that the temperature was for a previous day. I’ve been looking for answers but your blog post was the first thing that confirmed my suspicions about an API change.

Well here we are – it is now 2017
No fix?
No Stable firmware (most releases cause issues with rebooting phones, BLF dropping off etc)
Any day now?

I have since updated the firmware and the weather has been working great! What model of phone are you running?

Could you tell me exactly (step by step) how you updated the firmware?

Open a web browser on PC and enter the IP address of the phone. Then, login with the administrator username and password. Go to Maintenance->Upgrade and Provisioning page, enter firmware.grandstream.com for the upgrade server in “Firmware Server Path” field and choose to upgrade via HTTP. Update the change by clicking the “Save and Apply” button. Then “Reboot” or power cycle the phone to update the new firmware.
If you are familiar with TFTP. Upgrading that way is the recommended way, but the above way will work. It just might be slower because so many people are trying to upgrade via that website.
